Project – Ghostwriter/Editor:
I have no hesitation in recommending Vicky as a ghostwriter. Our project was particularly challenging due to the fact that there were so many different contributors (11 in total) for the book. Each contributor supplied varying degrees of information, and Vicky was flexible enough to turn the notes into chapters that flow consistently in the book. All chapters are of high quality and Vicky managed to turn them all around in a timely manner. Vicky even took the time to put together chapters from CD recordings when no notes were provided. A task that turned out to be more time consuming then envisaged. The project also was delayed due to not getting notes etc from all contributors on time … Vicky again was flexible enough to assist for the duration of the project. A great example is the recent work she led for us supporting a Kenyan client Footprints Press with their inaugural publication ‘Life Journeys –Conversations with High Achieving Women in Kenya’. This beautifully illustrated coffee table book aims to inspire the next generation of female leaders in Kenya through profiles of over 70 high achieving women. Vicky led a virtual team to provide initial editing services on this project and a related project featuring Kenyan sportsmen and women.
Deftness of Touch & Cultural Sensitivity
This was a challenging project with very aggressive timelines. In the spirit of the publication all of the copy had been written by a team of young female writers and each profile and was of very different quality, length and style. Under Vicky’s expert guidance the editorial team’s task was quickly to cut and polish the profile texts into approximately uniform lengths, imbuing a consistency and professionalism of tone befitting the international aspirations of the publication. This they did with a deftness of touch and clarity of judgment that was second to none. The client was delighted by the way Vicky and the team transformed the text into publishable quality whilst maintaining the spirit and the voice of the individual contributors. In this we clearly saw the value of Vicky’s understanding of African markets and cultures combined with her international commercial acumen – not to mention her fabulous ability with words.
Going the extra mile
Illustrative of Vicky’s willingness to go the extra mile was that she independently provided fact-checking and consistency checking to the material as the editing process was taking place. As a result we were able to flag to our client a number of factual details for confirmation and ensure the quality of the end product.
Virtual team management
Whilst the team was working to a very tight deadline, we really benefited by Vicky’s management of a virtual team (other members being based in UK). Working closely together, the team gave us almost 24hrs a day coverage of the task, collaborating smoothly on line to make sure they were aligned on approach and stylistics.
Client Relationship Management
Vicky proactively managed her time and the team’s time, keeping very accurate records of the work involved. As a result she was able to keep me fully briefed on the progress being made. She managed formal weekly calls to review progress and resolve issues and of course maintained close contact with me throughout.
